A Butterfly and a Horse by Clare Strand is a participatory event concerning tthe complex relationship between the analogue, the networked, the digital and the generated image.Project made with Sothebys Institute and V&A design weekend.

Join artist Clare Strand in a pop-up recreation of her darkroom, to make a limited edition photographic print. Strand trained an AI with a dataset based on her previous photographic works, to create a monument to the histories of photography and the technologies we employ to preserve and share our memories. You will expose a butterfly or horse negative on Clare’s 1930s photographic enlarger. The final coproduced image will be posted to you.
